[00:01:00] ClancyPasta Presents One Night There Was a Second Moon By Justice Ram And you're listening to Clancy Pasta It just happened. A calm, regular February afternoon.
[00:01:27] With the hopes of a soon-coming spring, but still the early and devastatingly depressing sunset. People were not spending much time outside. The ones that did, though, saw something so phenomenal that at the moment it could only be explained as the biggest mirage in history. I was one of those special people.
[00:01:57] I've always loved the night, no matter winter or spring. The moon would give me a primal energy that I could tap into and experience life just a little bit more extraordinarily. I was outside that day, relaxing by the seaside, thinking of what I should do for dinner today, when I noticed that there was another moon. It didn't appear all of a sudden.
[00:02:26] It did not gradually fade in. It was just there as if it's been there for millennia. It looked like a one-to-one copy of the moon that we know. It carried the same amount of light, had the same gray, groovy holes. In the first second, I already felt that it was giving me the same energy as our original partner.
[00:02:57] I went ahead and talked to some random strangers that I saw by the boats rested next to the harbor, and when I pointed out that there was another moon, they were surprised as well. At least I knew it wasn't just me. We didn't talk much about it, but not because we did not know each other. Purely because there was nothing we were able to say about this matter.
[00:03:22] A visceral overstock of lunar feelings, but no way to put the sensation to words. The next morning, after not a very long night of sleep, I woke up to the whole world discussing the now-called new moon.
[00:03:45] Every talk show had a scientist on it, trying to explain through their self-serving egotistical theorems of how this could have happened. But truthfully, none of them had a single fucking clue. The psychologists were describing it as a mass hysteria event, perhaps some sort of hallucinogen.
[00:04:09] But we all knew what we saw, and we all felt the reality of our situation. I called my mom that day. I have not talked to her for three months, but I felt like this was the time. Because she would always be the person telling me about the power of the moon. Its liberty. Its characteristics.
[00:04:39] Its nature. And, most importantly, its potency. I never believed that pseudo-scientifical-astrological bullshit. Until I grew older. Until I grew closer to the night.
[00:05:07] I tried to dial the number that I did when the last called her, but it was not picking up. I tried to call her neighbor. She was not picking up either. The whole circumstances surrounding this event made me think nothing deeper though, and just put my phone aside, thinking that I will just try again later.
[00:05:31] The upcoming night was perhaps the most anticipated event that I have ever been a part of. I didn't really have friends who I could share this excitement with, this very humanistic need to know what is going to happen when the sun sets tonight. But the undying curiosity overshadowed the loneliness of the situation.
[00:06:00] After a day of listening to wild theorizations and nonsensical blabber, I felt tired by the time the sun started to come down. And the exhaustion kept getting worse and worse closer to the sunset. I usually feel quite tired on a regular basis, but this was something completely unprecedented. I felt weak to the bones, as if a million needles were poking every follicle on my skin.
[00:06:31] But the sun finally came down. I dragged myself outside, now sweaty, dehydrated as if I just ran a half marathon, and barely present in the previous excitement of seeing our new found lunar friend again. I am still not sure what happened next.
[00:06:59] Usually the moon doesn't just appear in seconds. This time it did. I don't remember the time between when the sun disappeared from the horizon, and when the moon was fully visible in all its white, stained glory. And of course, its comrade sitting right beside. It took me a moment to realize that I was seeing them again. That it wasn't a peculiar dream.
[00:07:27] That it was our new reality. But before my eyes were able to relay the image to my brain, I felt a sudden jolt in my heart. An incredible amount of energy surged through my veins, hot and fast flowing. It spread from my heart to every tip of my body. Not only I felt energized, I felt alive. More than ever.
[00:07:57] I felt like I could take over the world. It was like cocaine, or at least how I've heard it to be described. It was pure euphoria and complete groundedness. But as soon as the sense of vision landed in my brain, and processed the information of the two moons, another bit of intel hit my haywired brain. My mother was dead.
[00:08:30] I woke up the next morning, just as the sun rose past the deep horizon. My body felt like it was bruised from top to bottom. I had a headache worse than any hangover I have ever had. But the only thing that was present in my mind was my mother. I had to find out if it was true.
[00:08:56] My brain was firing so many neurons, trying to convince me that it wasn't. That there's no way I could randomly sense my mother's death. But somehow, on a very deep and profound level, I knew she was gone. Nevertheless, I got up with all of my tiny amount of strength and went to the phone.
[00:09:23] I had three missed calls from my mother's neighbor. She was a very off-putting lady. Always a shut-off, but super sweet if she does ever talk. A lady that would never call three times unless something major had happened. I did not bother to call her back. That was enough to be my confirmation.
[00:09:53] A sudden hit of grief and tears hit me like a lightning strike and I fell to the ground. All of my senses now understood that the one person I knew loved me more than anyone is now gone from this planet. I could not help but feel completely isolated and left to wither away by myself in this horrendous world. I wanted to leave so bad.
[00:10:25] But through all of this intense and sharp shanking pain, I had another hunch. The same level as when I knew my mother had passed, just not that sudden. More underlying. More promising. I needed to see the moons one more time.
[00:11:14] I'll get you home. Heart of the Beast. Colleen Theater, September 25th. Rated PG-13. Maybe inappropriate for children under 13. This episode is brought to you by ChatGPT. The rest of the day felt like an enormous fog that had frosted over. The grief didn't go away. I couldn't eat or drink.
[00:12:05] I was walking around the whole day trying to understand things. The news, the internet, kept moving on with the same ideas. Mass psychosis was the frontrunner. But nobody mentioned about it affecting them in any way. Or blacking out during the night. I don't know how it made me feel. I just understood that it made me special.
[00:12:35] I've never been special. But it didn't feel special. It felt like I had been selected on a special first class ticket, hailing directly to hell. I kept going anyway. The urge to survive until the night was only increasing. Eventually overcoming even the grief of my mother and the physical strain my body had gone through in the past 24 hours.
[00:13:06] Sooner than later, it was the evening. The sun had begun to set. I decided to walk to the spot I was at two days before, where I saw the second moon for the first time. I put on the same clothes, the same playlist that I had in my earbuds when I was on the beach that night. When I locked the doors to my house, I had a hunch
[00:13:33] that that was the last time I will ever leave this place. But I felt some sort of calmness about it. There was a drive in the air, like nothing was going to stop me from what's about to happen. With that drive, I walked away from the house, the beach was just ten minutes away.
[00:14:05] The familiar sound of crashing waves, the algae-tainted smell of water, the strong gusts of wind brushing through my body with no regard for it. Every detail felt exactly like the other evening. The sun was now at its lowest. I was anxious. Seriously anxious. I have not been like this since the time I had to play one of the piggies from Three Little Pigs in elementary school.
[00:14:36] Somehow that felt relevant. I was a kid again. With every bit of the sun disappearing, the lunar energy started showing signs in me. For a brief moment, I thought I was like a werewolf. I cringed at that thought. But the energy kept flowing stronger and stronger until... I saw her.
[00:15:05] I saw my mom. Clear as day. Beautiful as she always was. Young and confident like she had been in my childhood. A strong aura surrounded her and... After a brief moment, I realized that it is reaching to me. That... This... Was the primal essence. My mother's metaphysical hug
[00:15:35] phased through my body and cuddled me to a stillness that persisted for what felt like an eternity. I started bawling. Tears of joy or sadness, I wasn't sure, but... They were endless. My mother was fading. I didn't want it to end, but... Somewhere in the deepest parts of my subconscious, I heard... It's time.
[00:16:07] I had to let go. I had to. I kept telling myself that. But it took everything in me to do it. I awoke, half buried in the sand. The new moon was gone. I'm writing this the day after we celebrated my mother's life. Many people showed up,
[00:16:38] told stories that... I've never heard. I listened to them all and thanked each and every one of the people that came to send my mom off. Her beautiful presence was shared with me once more and... I could not be more grateful. Yet, I can't help but feel that my life will never be the same. I will try to keep it going, though. I know she would want me to.
